For the last several months I have been using Nobara/OpenSuse and they have been amazing to use on a daily basis.
Why am I sharing this? It has been a pleasure using something different than Windows/Mac everyday. I have shared that they are easier and more intuitive to use. They come with the applications and functionalities that people need built in. They really took the best of the mac/windows and made it free. This is such a helpful thing for people who don’t have financial resources to own mac/windows.
Has there been a downside? Not at all. Every program that I need to run works great. I am not limited in anyway. In fact in some ways I have more freedom and flexibility in doing things the way that I want. This may not seem like a big deal until you use a Linux system. Then you start to ask yourself, why you allowed yourself to be chained to such limited OS such as windows/mac all this time?
For example Windows 11 is reducing the functionality compared to Windows 10. Mac strictly proprietary nature and tight security makes it difficult to install for the average person third-party products. This isn’t the fair marketplace to compete. It is a walled off experience which limits choice. I don’t like Apples paternalistic attitude towards what apps are acceptable. I don’t need someones morality legislating what is right for me.
If you have to use a mac/windows for work fine. When you are using a computer for your own purposes, you don’t have to limit your choices. I think most people would be surprised and impressed at how wonderful both of this Linux OS are. I know I have been.
