Nobara has more helpful things than unhelpful, but I wanted to share one today.
I love Nobara because of its built-in NVIDIA driver configuration. This means that it performs amazing as a games machine both natively in Linux and on Steam. Better performance than my much more expensive MSI computer.
What I don’t love about Nobara is that it gives me strange issues occasionally that aren’t clear how to fix. For example the last few days it popped up a message saying that my Yum Extender files needed updating. When I updated them and rebooted it acted as though nothing changed. It still showed they needed to be updated.
So this went on for maybe 4 days. Today I was writing my posts and I thought “Wait a minute, where is my annoying Yum Extender files popup?” When I went to Update System it showed that those files were no longer listed and had a new update for Brave which I installed from Flatpack. I updated it and didn’t even have to close my browser. Isn’t that amazing? Not having to save tabs or worry about lost work, it just updates and lets you get on with your day? I love that.
Everyday for the last week I have been using nomachine to display my PC on my Nobara screen. If the PC fails then I continue using Linux. If the Linux machine fails then I just move the computer over and use the Windows computer. Why would I do this? For several reasons. One the color looks amazing on the projector from Linux and Nobara. On the PC the gamma is too washed out. I have adjusted it as much as possible on the computer but the color options natively in Nobara are far more advanced. Yes I have installed the latest NVIDIA drier on Windows but it still doesn’t look as good as it does on this ThinkPad with Linux.
Since the keyboard on the ThinkPad is better than the MSI keyboard that is another reason I have it set up this way. Now of course I could make Windows run in a VM but then if something happened physically to this ThinkPad I wouldn’t have any backup or reliability. I have a ASUS with Windows 11 as my backup, backup, but I have lost interest in that machine. ASUS has not played fair and I don’t wish to support them anymore.
All in all Nobara has been amazing for me. I love it just as much as I love OpenSuse for business.
