MSI gaming computer gives better projector output

Nvidia Control Panel

I always thought that the video output to the projector seemed a little dark. I tried various things like changing the screen RGB profile, but that did almost nothing.

A few days ago I was messing around in the NVIDIA control panel because I had moved the screen around. Under Adjust Desktop Color settings is an option called Apply color enhancements. By default my gamma was 1.4.

As you can see in the image it now shows that the Gamma setting is at 1.60. This has made a huge difference in the overall quality of the image. Now when I watch a TV show/movie there aren’t so many dark shadows and games look the best they have ever looked.

Sadly changing the other values didn’t seem to make a useful difference in the quality of the image. This would probably not need to be done if you had a more expensive projector. That probably optimizes the color levels better. Still if you have a cheaper projector and you want it to look your best try experimenting with the gamma levels on your computer. There was no gamma adjustment in the projector itself.

Generally the projector image looks best when I leave it on the default levels. When I tried to apply color adjustments from the projector side, it looked worse in my opinion. It also seems to slow the image down so that is another thing.

Oh I almost forgot to add. Disable the feature in your web browser that says “Use hardware acceleration”. That also increased the quality of the image. The Use hardware acceleration seems to be an issue with many games that are played online, and even watching some videos. It is the first thing to try if you have video issues in a browser.
