Microsoft security actually helped me

Yes I am surprised to type this as well. Here is what happened.

I’m just going along my day and I get an email from Microsoft that says that recent activity is suspicious. I look at it and become alarmed. It says that a windows computer using edge logged in with my personal email to both Virginia and the Congo.

Now what set of the alarm wasn’t Congo, but the fact that currently I am only using a mac at work and a Linux personal computer. There was no way that I was using a windows computer because that was my gaming computer, and I don’t play games during work, and I hadn’t used it.

So I logged in to the Microsoft site and went to recent sign ins and said it wasn’t me. They helpfully suggested I change my password which I did.

Now if you were using a Windows computer and you got this error message you might not think anything about it. When you only use a mac/Linux it becomes very obvious when someone tries to impersonate you. The advantage of doing things a different way than the majority is that scams are harder to fool you with because they don’t apply.

Do whats different not because its different, but because it helps you and others.
