Willa Cather, Death Comes for the Archbishop said this and I often think about it.
I love technology and what it enables us to do. It allows me to have a life that I could never have had pre-internet or even pre-COVID-19.
However I am also forced to weigh the downside of our current civilization. Are we doing what is helpful or what is easy? Are we headed toward improvement, or sliding into errors?
I think 95% we are headed toward improvement. It doesn’t feel it now with the current concerns and challenges we have in the world. However every change is painful, mostly because of the mindset that what we are currently doing is the way we should continue to do it.
I have worked in every company and every time change is presented it is argued with and worked against. Change is hard and yes it is true that change often hurts us at a personal level. I have been negatively personally affected by societies changes, but I accept that as part of the change that needs to be required in society. While we always need to value the minority, we all have to take steps towards progress and elevate humanity.
Are you proud of the things you are currently doing? Are you doing things that strengthen you, your community and world? Are we reaching out the ignored, and healing the pain that we can address. Do we act each day with an eye towards the larger community?
Is our life reflective of our values or someone elses?
