Love the shadows from LED lights

When I bought LED lights in the past I did it because it was an emergency prep. After using them for many years I have grown to love them.

Why? One of the things that you learn when you have lights that don’t flood the room with overwhelming light is that shadows are very interesting. I have played with shadows with these lights, and they have been indirect lighting as well for me.

For example, when the day is overcast like today I can use one LED light instead of turning on the more expensive and too bright overhead light. If I face it at the white wall, the glow it provides makes me look better in video in meetings. The same when I directed the light to the white projection screen I used to use. It would reflect the light and make me look good in meetings.

Now with an overhead light there were always shadows under my eyes and less flattering detail. By having this smaller but more focused LED light I can control what the effect is. It is kind of fun.

Right now I have two LED lights. A cheap one from a retailer, and one that costs twice as much but is metal and will probably last far longer. The other cheap LED lights that I bought broke including one that is identical to the one I am still using. When it fails, I will buy another metal LED light. I think that too often we spend more money on cheap things than if we had just saved and waited and bought something that was better quality.

Of course I hope I shed some light on the subject.
