Linux ThinkPad works very well

Most of this year I have been using a Linux ThinkPad for work. It has worked very well.

I have done Zoom, Teams and Office things with it. I have used it for both personal and professional work, reinstalling each time and no issues. Well two very minor issues, which I detailed earlier about one time where a web page kept scrolling and not responding to me.

Still in that time, I used two Windows machines both Windows 11 Pro and had more issues. I also used a mac computer and it had a few issues as well. When something is more reliable than a mac, its really is something special.

No I wasn’t using any hardened Linux version. Nobara Linux 39 with 16GB of ram and an old processor. This is a hobbyist Linux and not even a commercial one. It has worked very well with the different screens and other devices I have connected to it. It has worked better than any other combination of OS/hardware I have ever used. Now it isn’t the fastest. The MSI is faster. I am not using that because that is the laptop that is configured with the consulting companies software and I am not going to risk that as my personal laptop.

So right now this is my personal computer and where I go to primarily play and research information. I don’t use a company computer to research information because Windows doesn’t offer enough protection against threats on the internet. When I find something that I need to share then I either type in the URL or email the information to myself and then act on it. Yes it is a little more work, but I have never had a work computer compromised by researching on the Internet to find a complex answer.

The other neat thing about using a Linux computer is that it is instantly responsive when you do something. When I have to use the Windows computer for work, it often pauses before it obeys and that is time wasting. I like to be efficient and for me a Linux computer is the most efficient tool I can use.
