If you are keeping your old junk you are selfish.
Why can I say that? I have lived that. Junk by definition is something that is no longer useful to you. There is no purpose to hold onto things that are junk, either than laziness or selfishness.
Let me give you an example. I have a friend who had tons of junk they never used. In fact when it was in the closet and it fell down on me when I put my coat in, they forgot they had it. When I asked when was the last time they used it they couldn’t remember. That is a sign you are a hoarder.
There is a psychological truth that generous people are rarely mentally ill. People who are generous and give do so because they believe they have enough or are enough. They are not afraid of the future, and they don’t try to fix their fears with things.
I spoke about this earlier when I realized that the balance between being a prepper and being a hoarder is a delicate one. Let me give you another example. As a kid I discovered old kitchen supplies in the basement. They were twenty years old at least when I discovered them. When I asked my parents why didn’t they donate it to a charity they said “They may need them.” When I left 20 years later they still hadn’t used any of them once. Now after 40 years those things were rusted, broken and useless to everyone. They could have given them away when they didn’t need them and helped someone, but they choose not to and that is selfish.
Everyone has a right to do with their things as they wish. If we would share with others, we would find we have plenty to go around.
