It takes a community to make things work. I think that is one of the reasons that many things don’t work today.
For example, earlier this week the building sent an email outlining the process of bagging the trash and sending it down the chute. It is supposed to be securely tied. They said that because people were not bagging their trash roaches have infested the building and now we are getting an extra visit from the exterminator.
It is unfortunate that adults don’t realize the importance of proper trash disposal. As a kid I was in charge of taking out the families trash and burning it. We lived in the rural rural area and burning trash was ok. So I got to understand very well what would burn and what wouldn’t. When the burn barrel was filled we would take it to the dump and dump the non burnable things and then continue using the oil barrel. It seemed to work well.
What I learned from taking out the trash is that trash attracted lots of insects. The ants were always interested and sometimes flies and other things would be near the trash barrels. I burned the trash immediately when taking it out, but it still was messy, smelly and unpleasant. I didn’t get to enjoy trash service until I moved to a major city much later and I thought it was awesome. You didn’t have to deal with the smell and problems with trash.
So for me when I read that email I was like, it can’t get easier folks. All you have to do is literally tie up your plastic trash which takes at most a minute. Now the building says it will cost $4000 to clean the chutes and disposal and that will be charged to all of the owners of the units. A small group of people make everyone suffer. This is why being selfish never works. All of us have to be educated, motivated and have the desire to do what the community needs to survive and thrive. We suffer when we allow ignorant and immature people to dominate our time.
Don’t be ignorant and immature. Find ways to be responsible and learn each day. Be a credit to society not just someone who tries to get by doing the least possible. In this instance, you might even say these were trashy people who don’t know how to deal with trash.
