I asked ChatGPT and thought about it and for me the answer is no.
The biggest problem that I face is that unlike many non IT people my problems are because of the policies of the companies that I work with. I deal with sensitive things and they should have these policies. So that is part of why we get paid as employees to deal with the difficult things.
For example, when I finish working with one consulting company then I will remove their policy on my phone that forces me to put in the password to their email since I will no longer be needing it. One problem solved.
The policy of needing to put in my password when I open it up is because I didn’t set up the face unlock. I set that up now. I had used the pin because I was used to using that on the old iPad I had and it worked for me. So that will be removed.
Now the policy of needing MFA and using Okta Verify/Microsoft Authenticator I can’t change. That is necessary for company security and its a small thing.
Using 1Password makes almost all of my other logins to web pages and things seamless. It makes it easy for the credit card number to pop in a form when I want it and I love that. It has really reduced the friction of using countless services.
I don’t want to buy a FIDO key or anything physical that might get lost or stolen. I prefer to keep things virtual if possible. Plus as the old saying goes, 2 is 1 and 1 is none. I don’t want more stuff in my life I want less stuff.
So then that leaves the possibility of one day a national database where your identity is already verified and you can use that. I hoped that what my signing up for CLEAR would be but it really hasn’t been that useful at all to me. It would help me more if I flew but since i don’t, I can’t really justify the time I spent doing it. Still it didn’t hurt me and I am glad to show I’m legit.
I’m open for ideas if anyone else has them to make living with security easier. These are my ideas that work for me.
