Immigration reduces crime study finds.
Why share this? Some people believe that immigration causes crime. In fact, it does the opposite and reduces certain types of crime.
What is the data that supports this? From the article itself:
The authors drew a sample of 200 metropolitan areas as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau and used census data and uniform crime reporting data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a 40-year period from 1970 to 2010.
Compare this to what is said here.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best,” he said during the announcement. “They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists and some, I assume, are good people, but I speak to border guards and they’re telling us what we’re getting.”
Clearly that is factually wrong. Not only this but many economists say that immigrants bring solid economic benefits to the United States. If you have ever watched any documentaries about immigration or an immigrant’s life you would see how difficult it is. Rather than harm them, we should be helping them.
For example, many immigrants work at very low-paid manual labor jobs that they can’t find US citizens to do. Things like agricultural work, picking oranges, or pulling weeds. In those documentaries, you didn’t see any US citizens wanting those jobs. You didn’t see anything other than hardworking immigrants working those jobs as immigrants have always done working the most difficult jobs throughout history.
The view of Asians has changed throughout history. They were brought in to work on the railroad and they were paid the lowest wage possible typical of all immigrant jobs. As a country we have been built on slave and immigrant labor and how dare we suddenly say there isn’t a place for diversity in the United States?
More important than just having an economic place for everyone is that the very real fact is that our society is aging. Japan is aging too and they are older than us and have labor shortages. Do we have to have a labor emergency like Japan is having and not having enough births to fill the jobs that are needed?
The fact is that immigrants help keep the country economically afloat and contribute far more than they take. How can someone who wants to work hard for a chance at a decent life be a threat to an average US citizen?
I have known illegal immigrants personally and as a whole, I have found them to be inspirational. Hard-working, not complaining, and saving up to go through the log process of immigration. I have even supported someone coming to the United States myself on behalf of a family and friend request. I didn’t mind saying that I would be responsible for her but of course, her family totally supported her like they said they would.
Even if the family didn’t support her, I had the means and capability to support her. She deserved a chance at life, and I only wish that I could support and help more people have the chance we all do.
Who are we to say that others don’t have a chance at the life we do? Everyone should be given a chance who is willing to work hard.
