If your games aren’t fun you are doing it wrong.
I am talking to myself here first of all. I shared before that I like playing Marvel Strike Force and one of the weaknesses of many online games is the competitive aspect. It is easy to get emotionally invested in a game that should just be fun.
It is a free-to-play game with of course paid upgrades. I know that the company wants to encourage you to pay for upgrades. At times I have paid for upgrades. It is a fun game for the most part. However, when you often lose it can be frustrating, and then it makes you want to pay to fix the problem.
The problem is of course being attached to the idea of winning/losing. The game is clearly set up to encourage frequent loss and to encourage sales. When there is engineered frustration built in, it makes you question if you want to continue playing or not.
I have played many games in which I had to upgrade my character as I progressed. Normally I enjoy doing that however as years have passed the natural increase that happens has become slow and painful. It makes the gameplay not fun, and many people get frustrated and leave because of it.
Please don’t misunderstand. I am not saying that I am frustrated enough to leave the game yet, but I can understand why people feel that way. In past games, I left It wasn’t a choice because the company shut it down, the machine broke, or the technology wasn’t safe to use anymore like flash games. No game is forever and the most you can hope for is that you enjoyed it while you were playing it.
Remind yourself that if you play a game and you aren’t having fun, perhaps it is time to reevaluate that game.
