I have been told no a lot in my life. I think that is a healthy and good sign.
Most people tell you that you should only do things that you think you can get a yes at. This is short term advice. If you only do what you can do easily, you will never grow.
All of my life, I have challenged myself and companies to see me as highly capable. Some companies have taken the chance with me and I have been told I am very valued. Other companies look at me and don’t want to take a chance. Which is fine.
The truth is that if you aren’t told no at least 50% of the time in your life, you are aiming too low. You aren’t challenging yourself, and you aren’t growing as a person. I have grown in every job I have had, and that is thrilling for me and I always show the client that they made a great decision in believing in me.
Now some recruiters/hiring managers will look at my resume/experience and say that it is a red flag. It is a red flag. It is a red flag that I don’t think like they do. I have seen that many people become rigid in their thinking and skills the longer they are at a job. New ideas, new ways of working often stimulate a company but if that is something that their culture doesn’t value then you shouldn’t be working there. They won’t appreciate you.
If you want the easy road in life, just do what everyone else does. If you want to look back on your life and be glad of your growth, taking reasonable chances means you will be told no and that is not only ok, its a sign you are on the right track.
