My email provider FastMail kept annoying me to setup a Passkey when I was logging in using MFA. I thought, is it really worth the effort to set it up?
Yes it was. I did it and I should have done it sooner. In FastMail I just went to Settings, Passkeys and clicked on the Manage Passkeys icon. Then I clicked on Create a passkey and then said continue. It offered to save the passkey in my 1Password keychain and I said yes. Then it allowed me to give it a cute name and I was done.
I logged out of FastMail and then went I went to log back in 1Password popped up a message that said login to FastMail and offered me a login button. I clicked on it and I was in like Flynn. I didn’t have to bother with getting an MFA number and typing it in. If you use MFA this is safer and faster.
I talked about Passkeys long ago and looked forward to using them. Even our enthusiasm for tech sometimes falters when we are asked to do more work. You will be glad you created a passkey when you don’t have to mess around with typing in MFA authentication codes anymore.
