Idealogy does not beat reality

I don’t think people are stupid who have a different belief than me. I do find it hard to understand however.

I watch lots of different kinds of YouTube videos and read many sources online. Many times I am surprised at the reasoning and logic of what people say. I honestly hadn’t considered it before, so I think it over and ask myself if it sounds true. Then I do a web search/ChatGPT to see if it was true.

Yesterday a speaker said that women in the military are a small fraction of the forces. I looked it up and women make up 16% of the enlisted forces and about 20% of the non enlisted forces.

While that is less than men, I think it invalidates that speakers point. His point is that because women don’t have to fight in wars, they shouldn’t have the same rights as men to vote and put mens lives at risk. Now, I am not saying I believe in this, but I do listen to different points of view to better understand my own.

So today after learning that yesterday I realize that that web show I can’t watch anymore. If they don’t care to have accurate facts, I don’t need to indulge their POV. I have found that most media personalities, don’t have the facts that are authoritative and bias free. If I watch someone and they have wrong facts, I don’t watch them anymore. I want to become more wise and knowledgeable not ignorant and confused.

What I find interesting in learning about others opinions is that almost 100% what they claim they don’t apply to themselves. We are all hypocritical and we need to be more humble in looking for truth. Truth isn’t a political party, and no one owns it. We can only get glimpses of it and we should carefully live our lives so that we respect the truth that we have discovered.

Too often what I see is that peoples egos get involved in their lives and it only causes their unhappiness and destruction. How sad that people need to feed their egos, rather than valuing the truth of what experience has taught them.
