How has using ChatGPT changed how I work?

So many ways. Let me think from most impactful to least impactful.

The most impactful is that I rarely use search engines. The last time I used one was because the ability to search the internet was offline and it told me so.

I also might check using a search engine if I believe that a fact or something is incorrect. Sometimes it is, and sometimes I didn’t know something and I learn something.

I use ChatGPT everyday. Not just for work but also for personal things. It has some interesting responses and frustrating at times too.

For example this morning I was trying to get it to output the file to a word file and it wouldn’t. For multi page responses, it often just summarizes text when you ask it to output all the data to word. It also has other flaws. It doesn’t make intuitive charts, the auto graphics are annoying, and it includes information that is just padding.

Yesterday I spent almost 3 hours redoing prompts and changing things to get the report that i wanted. Would I have been able to write it as quickly myself? No. It would have taken me longer. Would I have done a better job? Yes. I think ChatGPT appeals to lazy people, and the danger in using it is that it is just a starting point and not an ending place. Often it fails even as a starting point.

Will ChatGPT improve? Of course. Hopefully we are seeing it at its worst. Right now it is on the edge of usability.
