I was raised in a state that was 44/50 on spending in education. I learned more out of date garbage than you can shake a stick at. Let me help you with the myths that I learned were untrue.
- Civilization helps humanity. No this is not a rant about being an anarchist. That doesn’t help either. Ever since we stayed together for protection from animals and to help each other things were pretty good. However once money came into the picture, effort got divorced from consequences. Stealing was better than working, and since then that is what most people have done. As time has gone on, we have become better at stealing and become worse people for it.
- Religion helps humanity. Even though religion was supposed to be separate, there was always a thread in what teachers taught and how they presented themselves. There was always a condescending morality that they claimed to have the high road, and everyone else was inferior. I dislike religion not because of the contents, but how it causes people to treat each other. If religion makes you a better, kinder more loving person I love it. However I see the opposite. People use religion to justify mistreating others, and that I can’t accept.
- Intelligence helps humanity. Intelligence does improve the quality of life, and I love science and all of its benefits. But I wonder often if life wasn’t better when we didn’t have the intelligence we have now. When we were ancient cavemen, and needed each other to survive. Yes we had no great accomplishments, but we had a human family and no accomplish is worth ruining our connection to each other.
- Emotions help humanity. Emotions are probably the most sticky and difficult thing for people to handle. We know what is helpful, but our emotions keep us from doing it. Courage is rare, and emotions enable us to continue in situations that don’t help us, and often keep us from being happy. We would be better if we didn’t have emotions, and weren’t subject to their petty whims. I see more cruelty and unhappiness because people won’t acknowledge and accept responsibility for their emotions than anything else.
- Toys are important. People buy toys in their life, but they avoid what really will make them happy. Accepting themselves, and others. People will do anything to avoid accepting themselves and others. They will fill their lives with garbage but fail to truly love others. How sad for them.
