Getting a new leased car today

I am leasing an x3 today for several reasons.

One last week my car failed when I was driving up a hill. Not what I wanted but you deal with the situations in life as they happen.

Two I shared that I had rented an x5 and was so impressed with it. However the cost of the x5 was more than I wanted to pay, and although I loved it, the x3 would get me 90% there.

Does this mean I won’t ever drive the x5 again? I might rent it for longer trips, or maybe it will be my next car but right now spending $1000 a month on this luxury isn’t the most responsible financial decision.

I’m not trying to sell you this car. The lease for 7500 miles is $599 which makes this reasonable given its features. The monthly payment on the last car was $450 which was used and in an accident, so that was reasonable. Given that the 5 year price was half of the original price, it felt like a deal to me. Once I counted in the money spent on repairs over 11 years I feel I got my moneys worth out of it.

However the stress of dealing with unknown repairs and potential breakdown is worth money to me. So now I am going to lease cars for the rest of my life. No more random expensive car repairs. I am done with that. I had two breakdowns with the Lexus. One several years ago and the second on Friday. I am done with sitting and waiting for a tow truck. However I must add that with the Lexus leased car in the first month I was sitting waiting for a tow truck because the battery died. So just getting a leased car hasn’t prevented that, but it reduced it.

Maybe I’m unlucky with cars. Which is fine. Cars have been an interest and a hobby and I certainly have changed my opinion as I have experienced different companies and models. Renting is always fun and that why I am getting the x3 now. I look forward to getting to know BMW in depth and not having the pressure of having to pay for expensive repairs. Bring it on!
