No I’m not mentally sick, it just is easier.
For years since I didn’t have a laundry machine in my living space I had to depend on laundry service companies. They did a great job but there are some downsides to that.
The biggest downside something that I have realized is that you can make your clothes last longer when you have a washing machine. Now if I spill something on myself I simply take it off and immediately wash it. I couldn’t do that before. Yes I would soak and treat it, but generally there isn’t a great way to do that without a washer.
This means that my clothes have lasted longer living in a place with a washing machine.
The main reason I enjoy doing the laundry is that I no longer have to worry about the stability of a third party laundry service. Out of the many laundry services I have used, two of them had problems with stability and I was worried that I wasn’t going to get them back. One went out of business the next called for a pickup. So there is always a worry that your investment in your clothes will be lost.
Now it is nice when other people fold your clothes and it makes it easy to put away, but for the extra $50 dollars a week I am ok with folding them myself. I feel good that in addition to saving money I can control the kind of laundry detergent that I use, and that has made me feel good about wearing my clothes. Sometimes laundry places use chemicals that have caused my skin to be irritated.
So having your own washing machine really simplifies your life. It is a pleasure to be able to wash again.
