Why do I say this? We save lives.
Today I went out in the hall and I smelled the odor of gas. Not everyone can smell it and I have had friends over who didn’t smell it when it was on and not being used accidently. They accidently moved the gas to on moving around the kitchen.
I immediately smelled it and let the building management and front desk know and sent an email. Fortunately my desk is next to the air Exchanger so I have fresh air but if it gets worse I will have to leave and go sit in the car for awhile until it passes.
Natural gas gives me a headache and I quickly realize when it is on. For that reason I have always bought a combination gas/ozone/fire detector wherever I have lived. Not all apartments I lived in had them, and I was glad to pay the $20 to be warned of that.
In my last apartment there were problems with gas as well. Sometimes there would be a leak and I would call the gas company and report it. Since I was in a garden apartment and it had about 4 units, the basement was under my apartment and I would sense it first.
When I worked for other companies I alerted management to dangerous conditions. I had a relative who was a licensed electrician so I learned what was dangerous. You would be surprised how many buildings have dangerous utilities. While I am sure this annoyed some people, I am not putting my life at risk for a company to save a few dollars.
When I worked in fast food they used gas to cook and that was also difficult for me. I also discovered a dangerous gas situation and told management. It was tough to work in that fast food job but I did it because there weren’t many jobs in that small town. I learned that I hate fast food, and don’t eat it to this day.
