One of the things that I have had to learn in my life is not to overwhelm people with options.
I like knowing the options that are available in tech. So I love to research and find solutions. However sometimes it is too much and I have to dial it back.
It is my fault. One of the downsides of being curious is that you by default, want to do research and explore the options. It has been my experience in most companies that they didn’t spend enough time doing research and just arbitrarily choose things and that I have seen is a painful learning experience.
Things that are a strength to us and come easily can also be a problem. We can overuse our strengths and we always need to remember that they are often problems for others. Some companies have already decided, and talking about them with clients only confuses them because they have already comitted to another option.
Being effective sometimes means knowing things and keeping quiet.
