It was my second day of work and my laptop was dead.
I couldn’t get it to come on and I was panicking. What kind of IT support person would I be if I couldn’t keep my used laptop working?
I called the help desk and was on hold for awhile. Yes, IT people have to be clients of the help desk as well. Finally someone answered and I explained that it didn’t seem to want to start and I needed help.
The person suggested that I hold down the power button for 15 seconds. This is usually only done if there is a CMOS/battery or some kind of hardware issue with other laptops and I hadn’t thought of that while I was panicking. Funny how that goes isn’t it?
So I wasn’t convinced it would work but I did it and it worked! I was so relieved. Now I could continue helping the client.
It was a computer model that I had less experience with and they told me that it was common issue and that sleep mode just sometimes randomly causes the computer to go to sleep, reboot or not want to start up. Interesting. They said otherwise the laptops were reliable and they loved them. Ok with me. So if this happens again, I am adding this to the troubleshooting tricks in my bag.
Life sometimes is not easy to go through, but it makes us more useful people to others.
