Celebrate your wins

We immediately feel bad when we feel we have a loss. Do we really enjoy and celebrate a win?

I don’t think so. I think loss and fear of loss is what make most peoples decisions. There are some scientific studies that say this as well. Given a choice, people would rather hold onto what they have than take a chance for something better.

This is what we see playing out in our larger society. We don’t value the small wins enough that moves us in helpful and positive directions in our life.

Why am I saying this? Earlier this week I had a win with the client in troubleshooting a problem that the expert at the company couldn’t help with. When asked he said that the company had never integrated it in that way before, so he didn’t have a guide on what we were doing. Our expert had done the instructions that were given by the company and that didn’t seem to solve the problem. I was able to figure out the problem by working with the company expert to troubleshoot it and at the end of the hour the solution became obvious.

I am not saying this to brag, but rather give an example of how a small win for you means a large win. For the company, they were able to maintain their current SEIM provider. If they couldn’t have figured it out, they would have had the cost and complexity of moving to a different SEIM provider. For the company rep, he got a guide on how to help his other customers and that is going to make many of their customers happy. For my MSP they got a win showing their value and what they bring to the table and for me and my coworker, we deepened our understanding of that software/integration. Life can have win/win if you want it to happen.
