I was approached by someone I didn’t know on the internet randomly yesterday and told that if I downloaded the Temu app they would chat with me.
Now this was weird. Imagine getting a random text message from someone who acts like they are your friend. When I told them no they didn’t respond. Who exactly is installing random apps at the request of strangers? Not me. If someone asked me to install an app, I would suspect that app more especially if it is from a Chinese origin.
I respect the Chinese culture, but too many scammers come from China and other countries that seek to undermine the US. There is no reason to install Temu and no reason to install any app that anyone wants you to install. It should come as no surprise that the app is known for disregarding privacy and can only help criminals get a further hold on your personal information.
As if that wasn’t enough, I still have the idiot scammer who is sending me emails asking me to verify my cell phone number. Now why would I do that? They have used 3 different names of people in my company who probably don’t even know I exist. If a communication is coming at you and promises you some kind of benefit if you do something, suspect 100% you are being manipulated.
Sadly all of the time that I have been on the Internet I have had to deal with criminals. There are times when real people are sincere. I have made friends with people online, but what I see increasingly is that criminals feel that they can do the stupidest thing to fool you. I think this is because, with the increasing age of people online, people aren’t being careful with their information and not looking at the red flags that they are showing.
Language is the number one red flag of scammers. They have terrible language. If someone speaks English poorly you should always suspect them of being a criminal. It may not be true, but it is increasingly true. Almost 100% of scammers who communicated with me had poor English.
