Today when I went to connect to my gaming computer AnyDesk triggered a popup demanding that I pay for it. It said I was using it for professional use.
Interesting. I could see how connecting to regularly all day would think I am using it professionally. The truth is that I hadn’t used it for any professional use, just to play Strike Force as a break occasionally and during lunch.
Now their form nicely said that if I believe this to be in error I could fill out a form to request a whitelist exception. I filled out the form and it said it would take 48 hours. Meanwhile I can’t connect to the other computer. I think this was designed to frustrate users into buying an unneeded subscription.
Now the result of this policy is that I am going to look for another remote control software that says it is free and use it instead. AnyDesk won’t ever get a subscription for me for the inconvenience, and for lying about being a free product for non commercial use. As a consultant I won’t ever recommend it to my clients, and I am sharing its deceptive marketing with you.
Is that worth it AnyDesk to try to force people into subscriptions that are not using it professionally?
