Always suspect unusual emails

You should always doubt emails and text messages you get.

Once when I was a consultant I got an email that looked like it was from Apple. I thought this was strange because although companies sometimes setup apple accounts for employees, I didn’t think they would set one up for me even if they did do this.

So I looked at the email headers and it showed it was knowbe4 which is an email testing company. I reported the email as phishing and I got an immediate response from security saying that they are doing a test and thanked me for doing the right thing. Then I got another email from someone else in security thanking me for doing the right thing.

It is common for hackers to troll LinkedIn and when you work as a consultant, try to send you an text/email saying that you need to do something from the CEO. It is ridiculous frankly. No CEO knows about you or is asking for your help.

If the email sounds weird or confuses you, report it. Never click on a link in an email. Ask someone about it. No good boss will be mad that you are being cautious.
