I have been working with Gemini and ChatGPT and lately I have been asking them both the same question and response of the other. That is, I would ask ChatGPT a question first let it give me a response and then copy everything the question and answer and see what Gemini thinks. Then I would do the reverse in Gemini and see what ChatGPT thinks.
What I came to the conclusion is that both ChatGPT/Gemini are terrible at understanding a basic question, making a logical conclusion and then honestly reporting that. They both make silly errors, and when trying to correct them they both make more errors. Honestly I was so frustrated with Gemini/ChatGPT last night I asked them why am I paying for you? I feel like perhaps it has been a waste of time to try to see how they can be helpful.
Sure they can reformat things. They have a very limited ability. But the most important things they can not do. I don’t even trust them with simple questions. Last night I asked Gemini about what a wrench symbol meant on my LCD of my high tech battery charger. It told me and then it said a lot of things that I found unbelievable. It didn’t make any sense to me. So I put it in ChatGPT and it was wrong and showed how with facts. Then I brought that conversation back to Gemini and it said it was wrong.
But it isn’t just gemini that is guilty of this. ChatGPT makes up things and confuses things and says wrong information on that same question as well. It gave me answers that I put into Gemini and Gemini showed me facts that showed it was wrong.
Now honestly if I can’t trust a basic answer with two AI’s why should I even bother using it? I thought that AI would be better than a basic web search. But web search has become such garbage and even AI is faster and more reliable than trying to scroll down and find information anymore. It is sad that one garbage product replaces another.
So now my attitude is going to be to going back to double and triple check the answers of all AI’s. I spent an hour last night trying to get to the truth. Here are some basic rules when dealing with AI’s.
- Don’t trust anything they say
- The links that they provide often are to outdated/non related content and don’t support what the AI claims they do.
- Expect basic mistakes in formatting and presentation.
- Expect it to not remember things that you ask it to remember even when it tells you that it will remember.
- Expect it to make guesses. You have to figure out the truth anyway.
AI has the appearance of intelligence, but not the reality.
