I grew up in a small town. Generally there is a high level of trust.
What does this mean? Well this is normal in a small town.
- Not locking your doors.
- Leaving your car running when you go inside for a moment.
- Showing large amounts of cash openly on payday.
- Talking about private things in public like your Social security number or other things.
Why am I sharing this? To help you understand what I did next.
As a cultural activity I liked to act in plays. I had a tryout and was accepted and the first day the practice was at 6 in the morning in a community 20 miles away. It took about 45 minutes to get there and I didn’t want to be late. So I was there early and when I pulled up another car was there as well. I went over and waved and smiled and talked with the person and after a few minutes of chatting she asked if I wanted to sit in the car with her since it was cold. I said yes.
We had a nice conversation and became friends. I didn’t think twice about trusting her even though she was a stranger. I trusted my intuition. Maybe that is sometimes wrong, but it has been a good guide so far.
