ChatGPT has been incredible for me lately

The reason I say this is that it has surprised me with its functionality.

First I wanted to say that I have been working on a long document and I ran up against the limitations of ChatGPT. It said that I couldn’t do what I was asking even though it was a pro request. However it also helpfully said that it could batch the process and combine it to overcome that limitation. So it took about 3 hours to do the batch process where I had to say continue in the same style to module 2 and then output to a text file. It was 71 pages.

This was very good. I reviewed the document and double checking links now. I started with an outline and then got something that would have take me much longer to write manually. Could I have done it? Easily. Would it have taken more time, yes a lot more time.

The other thing that GPT did that surprised me is that when you are presenting material the average rate of reading is about 140 words per minute. I knew that I read faster than normal and wanted to time how long it would take me to find out my rate per minute. I asked ChatGPT if i could read something for a minute using its mic and it could count and then tell me my rate. It said I could do that. So I read some random text at approximately the speed that I wanted to go, and it told me my rate. Naturally I was about 160 word per minute, but I need to be 90-110 for beginners and complex material which this is. So I need to speak slower by almost half, and I can do that.

This was incredibly helpful for me to have some guidance on the rate of speaking based on the time of the class and the amount of material that I have. It can be tricky to perfectly estimate this, but you can get a rough estimate and if you run out of time you can speed things up and if you don’t have enough material you can slow things down. So you learn with time an intuitive sense of this and you always want to have the appropriate amount of material.

I want the client to feel great about what they are getting, so I am triple checking everything and measuring and preparing supplementary material just in case they want me to skip things. Sometimes clients will tell me they changed their mind and want to focus on one part of the presentation more during the presentation and I always want to have a backup so I don’t run out of material. It can enhance what they didn’t realize they also needed to learn, and also be a fun side journey if they need a break or if someone who is a VIP needs to step away and you need to fill time. You really need to be prepared for any eventually as a teacher.

I love teaching, and wish that society was different and that it would be a viable full time occupation.
