Recruiters are funny

Sometimes I think that recruiters thrive on rejection.

Today for example I had a recruiter reach out to me and the job wasn’t right for me. I said no in the LinkedIn chat and the recruiter called me anyway. After telling me about the job he asked what the salary requirements were from me, and as always I said that NY law says a company must give a salary range. He said an exact number and I laughed inside.

The reason I laughed inside is that the number is half of what I am making now. I am not saying this to brag, but when I said no in the LinkedIn chat it was because his requirements were unrealistic. There was no way that I could do that in that timeframe. When a company has unrealistic timelines, I don’t even bother to respond with anything other than no.

When he said the salary in addition to the unrealistic deadline that was more than I could bear. I said no thank you and good luck. I also told him that it was an unrealistic deadline. Not that it matters to him, but the client won’t be happy with what gets done in that timeframe.

If a recruiter calls me when I have already said no in the chat, I am simply going to say I said no thank you and please don’t contact me again. Sometimes being nice is just an excuse to waste your time.
