Bought a new projector

I talked myself into buying a new projector. It was really easy once I found a UST one that has 5000 ANSI lumen of brightness. This would be more than 8 times brighter than what I am using now. It will be amazing to experience.

What this means is that even on the brightest sunny day I won’t struggle to read anything on the screen. It will mean that I can use the projector full time, and that means that I won’t need to rely on the 17 inch screen as much as I do now and also offer a superior movie experience.

The cost was about $2600 which I thought was incredible. I am not sharing the brand until I test it and confirm it is working properly. If that works then I will write a separate article about it. I have hope however since they used to make products I bought long ago and loved, and hopefully they continue their tradition of innovation.

Now what made me decide to do this? Lots of reasons. The most important is that it will help me use the projector full time and that will help with the increased documentation that I am doing for the client. It is a real pleasure to write documentation on a big projector screen. It helps you to easily capture small mistakes like a period or comma, where normally you may not notice them.

Can I say this has reduced my errors? Yes. The larger screens that I have gotten have enabled me to produce higher quality work since my errors are blindingly obvious. It is also lots of fun to play games after hours and so that was a small part of the benefits that I get as well.

Now what is the downside of this new projector? I have to find a new home for my old projector. I don’t think that will be a problem. My building has classifieds and when I put in free headphones last time they were almost immediately gone within an hour. When I put in free projector, I expect similar results. It feels good to give things away.

Could I sell it? Potentially but since it only cost me $600 almost two years ago I don’t think its worth my time honestly. I don’t want the hassle of the sale or the negative karma if the buyer is unhappy. If no one in the building wants it I will ask my friends, and they will probably be curious about it and want it. I know I would accept a free projector if one of my friends gave it to me.

It is amazing but what isn’t helpful to us is very helpful to others. Giving is always a wonderful experience.
