Backup 05 @Digital Outback Photo. Then you want to use ChronoSync. I am trying this out for my own use and it is working pretty well. It has the amazing ability to sync between the Mac and Windows XP or Windows 7! Isn’t that wonderful?
I did for the first time tonight on an old XP system that I have a Craigslist ad for in the NY area. It said it would take a significant amount of time to do and it wasn’t kidding! With a 140 GB drive it said it will take 15 hours! So I am letting it do that now.
If I can’t find anyone who wants it, I guess I will keep it as a spare. It seems a waste to me to throw a computer away that is perfectly functional. Perhaps I could find a charity who could use an XP machine.
I have rescued old systems in past places I have worked and given them to friend and charities. I know computers can be slow, but they are still very useful tools.
iPanic | namedfork.net. You might want to try this program. This is kind of cruel, so I wouldn’t suggest using it against your coworkers. Perhaps a friend is a better recipient.
Microsoft Making It Easier To Ditch Windows For A Mac. It must no longer be a choice for MS to have compatibility with older versions of itself. It must be a sign that Google and other email providers are threatening its dominance. This is something that could have helped MS maintain dominance, but like always, the arrogance of market leaders is its own undoing.
Fix for netflix error code n8156-6013. I ran into this problem on a Windows XP machine after i upgraded the Firefox from 4 to 5. It worked perfectly in Chrome which I am using to watch it now. There are several solutions listed in this link.
This article has some excellent information on demographics, application usage, and other use of smart phones and Internet services. If I was trying to sell a product in this marketplace, this well-researched article would be something I would refer to.
After surfing the Internet the last two years for articles that I think you might enjoy, it is harder to find interesting and unique content.
I find as I am surfing a high number of duplication, errors of all types (misconfiguration software, factually wrong statements, and scrapings of other websites). It is interesting what StumbleUpon suggests for me. I have more than 30 categories of content, but the more that I use it, the worse it seems to get. Has anyone noticed this? That SU really reaches to find interesting things to share?
What I have noticed is that SU tries to suggest pages based on most recent stumbles by other users. Many times those suggestions are the same pages that other stumblers stumble. So for instance I might look at 50 pages per day and out of those 4 are duplications of what other users have found. It doesn’t do a good job of filtering pages you have already seen.
This isn’t meant as an attack/rant against StumbleUpon. I have found some great content with it. It just seems that there is quite a bit of noise on this service, and very little signal. When I first started it, I found all kinds of great content. Now however, the great content is harder to find. I have started to suggest pages that I thought were good for others to find, but have less than 10 that I’ve suggested.
Some stumblers find some great content. I have met some interesting people from it as well. What would be a killer application is to have SU also integrate with Gmail or other email services. So that when you stumbled something you could automatically notify a select group of friends. Even better would be integration with Shareaholic. A Shareaholic and StumbleUpon combination would be amazing. It could be double filtered against your interests, and that would make a very intelligent AI to select things for you.
I will stick with SU until I find a better way to find new and interesting content. I am open for suggestions.
