Microsoft Making It Easier To Ditch Windows For A Mac. It must no longer be a choice for MS to have compatibility with older versions of itself. It must be a sign that Google and other email providers are threatening its dominance. This is something that could have helped MS maintain dominance, but like always, the arrogance of market leaders is its own undoing.

Study finds Macs account for 11% of corporate computers, Windows XP dominates | TUAW – The Unofficial Apple Weblog. I have been seeing this for years. People have gotten sick of using XP, and if they have Windows 7 they seem to prefer Macs. I think that the iPhone has done major work in rehabilitating the opinion of the general public about the functionality of Apple products.

Internet Explorer 10 Drops Vista Support – Slashdot

Internet Explorer 10 Drops Vista Support – Slashdot. The reaction on this Slashdot thread seems like a knee jerk reaction. Lets compare to how Apple does things.

Apple limits Safari to which OS it wants to support. The most current version of Safari supports 10.6 and 10.5. It doesn’t support Tiger 10.4. So for IE 10 which is the next browser and really planned for Windows 8, it breaks down as follows. Current OS support, check. Previous OS support Windows 7 check. Previous to that (Vista) or 10.4 equivalent no support. Whats the problem?

Note:  If you find and download the software below for W … Read More

Network Attached Storage

Everything under the sun works with the ReadyNAS except Windows 7. How do you fix this?

Ok, so last November I went out and got myself a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo network attached storage (NAS) device. All in all its pretty nice, has very low power consumption and good performance…but when trying to browse the NAS using Windows 7 I’ve had all sorts of issues. Now, Windows 7 introduced some new features to help improve network access by caching and perfetching network data differently to how it was done in Windows XP. Windows 7 may also h … Read More

Print from Windows 7 to a Mac Shared Printer (via Your Mac Guy (and more))

Excellent instructions here. Lots of great resources and articles.

Print from Windows 7 to a Mac Shared Printer I recently upgraded my wife’s laptop from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Home Premium. (The laptop manufacturer sent us a free upgrade coupon since we purchased it not too long before Windows 7 was released.) This morning she discovered that she can’t print to the Canon MP830 that is shared from the G5 Mac (running Mac OS X 10.5.8) in our living room. In Vista, I had it working via Bonjour. I’ve now learned a little too late that Bonjour doesn’t work … Read More
