Windows XP FAIL

I did for the first time tonight on an old XP system that I have a Craigslist ad for in the NY area. It said it would take a significant amount of time to do and it wasn’t kidding! With a 140 GB drive it said it will take 15 hours! So I am letting it do that now.

If I can’t find anyone who wants it, I guess I will keep it as a spare. It seems a waste to me to throw a computer away that is perfectly functional. Perhaps I could find a charity who could use an XP machine.

I have rescued old systems in past places I have worked and given them to friend and charities. I know computers can be slow, but they are still very useful tools.

Everything You Need to Know About 3TB Hard Drives | PCWorld. The article suggests that you test the drive by hooking it up and seeing if it is recognized. While that is easy, it does present its own set of problems. What if it isn’t fully recognized? What if you have a Windows 7 (non 64 bit OS) that only recognizes 2.2TB? Isn’t it fascinating that Macs/64 bit linux machines have no issues using/booting from these 3TB drives? The Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 seems to be the best performer from the group.

YouTube – Talking about Motion Computing tablet Ls800. I had an opportunity to use one of these and found it slower and much more awkward than an iPad. It got hot and the battery life was terrible. I would evaluate other units before purchasing this. On the good side, the pen was calibrated fairly well and the version of XP Tablet 2005 that was running is pretty prompt. I wouldn’t want to surf the web on it. The user in this video upgraded to Windows 7 and said it is more responsive than XP Tablet. This guys review is for the average computer user and is informal.
