diglloydTools DiskTester. This seems like a great way to work with hard drives and test a variety of things like network performance, or other safety issues. If you don’t like Drive Genius this might be a good alternative. For $40 this might be a better choice than Drive Genius if you know your specific needs.

Everything You Need to Know About 3TB Hard Drives | PCWorld. The article suggests that you test the drive by hooking it up and seeing if it is recognized. While that is easy, it does present its own set of problems. What if it isn’t fully recognized? What if you have a Windows 7 (non 64 bit OS) that only recognizes 2.2TB? Isn’t it fascinating that Macs/64 bit linux machines have no issues using/booting from these 3TB drives? The Hitachi Deskstar 7K3000 seems to be the best performer from the group.
