Nice writeup by Lex at Macworld. It seems that lately there has been more hacking interest in the Mac. I wonder why?
I have been using Sophos on my Mac and it has worked great. It has found a ton of viruses just surfing the web. Although I have to say that the most viruses I get are from using StumbleUpon. I wonder why they don’t scan the websites they catalog for viruses and then delist them?
Errata – Certified Pre-0wned – StumbleUpon. This isn’t surprising. Out of this list only twice has Apple been guilty of shipping a virus on their devices. Now that’s quality control for 20 years.
Sophos software is currently running on my mac and it hasn’t ever caused an issue. This is completely unlike other Mac anti-virus software I have used. I haven’t gotten a message with any kind of problem. I am just scanning my Mac now in fact to make sure everything is ok. ”Said virus data too old”. I guess that means my trial period is over. Hmm. I reinstalled the program and fixed this problem.

1) Open terminal
2) cd /Applications/Akamai
3) ./AdminTool uninstall -force”
This is one interesting thread that has different points of view. Something to consider. If it is a single user I would say no, but when you get more computers involved then I would tend toward using virus protection. At the very least to protect the Windows users from passing on a Virus.
