WordPress and Theora video and Vorbis audio Free Software formats (via Pookito’s Blog)

Great work guys! Getting closer to other CMS‘s like Drupal everyday.

Well, there is a good news for those who are Free and Open Source Lovers. WordPress has finally implemented the Free formats for audio and video. That means that it can play Theora and Vorbis files. What I like the most is that the Administrator can choose just to play the Free video and audio formats. :) It is located on the user’s dashboard under settings media. There is an option just to choose that.I do not know when was the time that this wa … Read More

Creative Zen V (as a Line-In Recorder) Review (via The Wheat Field)

This could be useful if you need to record talks and don’t want to dedicate higher cost devices.

Finally got this review done. Basically I got the Creative Zen V to record sermons at church via direct line-in when connected to a mixer. There are not many line-in recorders these days; Creative had quite a few devices that allow this but they have seem to stopped making them (possibly due to the hiss in the recordings?). Got a good deal at ~B$100 for 2 of them (1GB model, including shipping). Check out the video review [youtube http://youtube. … Read More

End of the Road for Firewire? (via Descent Into Darkness)

A 6-circuit FireWire 400 alpha connector
Image via Wikipedia

This blog has some interesting content. Firewire just didn’t catch on. It is really great though for Mac techs, and audio/video professionals.  I think another reason that it wasn’t successful is that Apple stores didn’t have the market share they have now.  Many electronics stores like Best Buy didn’t carry them, and the USB2 was simply easier to get.  Probably half of the technology decisions come down to convenience rather than best of breed.

I don’t think there are enough users to generate enough heat to keep Firewire burning. Audio and Video professionals swear by it, but if Microsoft sticks with its plans, Firewire may not be supported in Windows 8. This is following an industry trend with, for example, Apple itself phasing out firewire support in recent years. Firewire is still very popular in amateur and professional audio and video circles. Just read the blogs comparing USB 2 an … Read More

Dreamlinux has its first hiccup

Image via Wikipedia

I was watching a Dr. Who video on Youtube and the audio starts clanking like a bike chain that came off its tracks.  Has anyone experienced this?  I rebooted and its fine.  I’ve watched lots of video and this was the first problem I had with it.  If anyone wants a Linux that looks like a Mac this distribution is a very easy way to get it.

Very nice!  When I went back to Firefox it automatically remembered my last page and started playing the video.

Unity (via Sound and Complete)

This is a beautiful interface that takes the best of the Apple Doc system to a new level. It could be the beginning of the transition into 3D interfaces.

I’ve recently stumbled upon a demo video of the new Unity interface for netbooks, developed by Canonical: Simple, yet impressive, and I think it’s suitable not only for netbooks, but for any other devices. The idea of having a dock on the left (or right) seems natural with nowadays omnipresent widescreen displays, the accordion effect is both visually appealing and practical, and finally the keyboard shortcuts solution is really, … Read More

5 DailyMotion relaxing videos

Dailymotion video in WordPress is now working!

Image representing Dailymotion as depicted in ...
Image via CrunchBase

For anyone who experienced the problem of Dailymotion not working in WordPress using the Visual Mode, I worked with support to find a solution.  As of now, changes to the code  allow the instructions that you read here to work.  The below steps are pasted from that article.

Briefly you have to:

In your web browser’s address bar, copy the highlighted portion of the video’s URL illustrated below (this is the video’s ID):

In this example, the ID would be x8oma9, as you can see above.

Create a new post or page on your blog (or open an existing post or page in editing mode) and add the following shortcode directly to the visual editor. Replace the x8oma9 video ID with the one you are using.

Before I worked with support, this would work only in HTML mode, but not in Visual mode.  Now it is working in both Visual and HTML mode.  WordPress was very responsive when I brought this to their attention.  Now an entire new world of vlogs are open to us!

Sometimes as an end user you have to contact the developer and let them know bugs exist and they are happy and grateful to find them out.  Whenever there isn’t specific instructions, normally customer support will be able to help you.  I have worked as a Quality Assurance tester in the past and seeing progress is great.  I think anyone who uses WP would agree we have many things to be thankful being here.

YouTube Adds Video Editing in the Cloud Up until now, if YouTube (s GOOG) users wanted to combine multiple clips into a single video, they had to use offline editing tools. But YouTube today rolled out cloud-based video editing tools, giving users a whole new way to remix their existing video assets online. Web saved the video star (via Vivid London)

Some fun history to remember.

Remember the Macintosh TV that was released in 1993? No, you don’t and it comes as no surprise – the product was a flop. It does represent one of the first attempts by a computer manufacturer to turn a large computer monitor into a casual television. 2006 saw Apple return to this sector with the Apple TV, a hard drive based box that plays streamed content from your iTunes library on your television. The equation changed – this time Apple were tur … Read More

Is your iSight external camera not showing video?

First test in Photo Booth.  If you see a picture in that application, then the hardware is fine it just needs some software fixes.  Ralph has the correct solution. “Can you confirm that you are getting Video pic in Photo Booth and iMovie or even Quicktime Player (New Recording) but not in iChat ?

If this is the case try deleting com.apple.iChat.plist
You will find this in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences.

You will need to reset things in the iChat Preferences – Saved Transcripts, Any font Changes, any Colour changes, any Alert Settings and AppleScript actions.”
