Can we really convince others?

English: American pit bull terrier (named Tutt...

So I have added the “dogs” category in StumbleUpon hoping I might learn something interesting. What I have learned is that there is a ton of duplicated content, but more importantly a firm desire to try to convince people of their beliefs.

Its interesting that people spend lots of time and money trying to convince others to change their beliefs. I used to be that way. Then I learned that I can only share what I have experienced once, and then let it go. For example in todays browsing I found a ton of website trying to convince me that Pitbulls are gentle dogs and great pets. If that is true or false I don’t care. What I find interesting is the idea that we can give logical reasons and convince others. We don’t convince others, we just appeal to their own biases and agree.

Or am I wrong? Can someone really convince you to do something you don’t really want to do without using force? I’m talking about the idea that if you argue about something enough, people will see the logic in your side and change their mind. That has never worked for me.

It’s fine that you give your opinion. Give it once and then shut up.

More get jobs using Facebook than LinkedIn, Twitter – Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal. This is interesting. I have gotten many opportunities from LinkedIn. Looks like I might have gotten more if I had used Facebook. I used Facebook for awhile, but too many people I didn’t want in my life contacted me.

Pic of the Day — Steve Job’s Old Business Card (via KASH Global Solutions)

Simple but direct. It would make sense that they would keep the main switchboard number. They probably have invested a ton in phone infrastructure.

Steve Job’s business card from 1979. It’s said that Apple still uses this number for their company. It was found by some tech enthusiasts and the picture of the card was taken by Mozilla Labs Director Pascal Finette. He says, “I took the photo after a colleague brought the card into work the other day — the phone number on the card is still Apple’s main switch board.” via Silicon Valley Insider … Read More
