WordPress › Support » No images in rss feed. I had this problem so this is the first post with the new settings. I wonder how many RSS readers I have who will care? Sometimes I think that WordPress is just another kind of vanity publishing. You really wonder if it is worth the effort or if there is a better way to help the world.

Stories from my past: Being first isn’t always best

Wikimania 2007: Interviewing by Eastern Televi...

I was reflecting today how often my desires to be the first or best at something aren’t always helpful. Let me share a story from my past.

I was interviewing for a job that seemed like it would be perfect for me. I did my best, but I wasn’t chosen. A little while later I see the job listed on the job board again. I apply and this time I interviewed and chosen. I ask the interviewer what happened to the first guy, and he said that due to a legal matter with the subcontracted company, they no longer provided services and he had to leave. So if I had been chosen first, I would have quickly had to leave due to legal issues with the subcontractor and no fault of my own.

Sometimes being someones second choice is the better option.

Why is so much Internet content recycled?

The more time you spend on the Internet the more you discover that Internet content is almost 80% recycled.

Before you call me a hypocrite, yes I know that I feature best-of lists and talk about things that have been discussed before. So why am I bring this up? Because StumbleUpon, Twitter and other social services seem to make this problem worse not better.

For the third time I have found StumbleUpon saying that I have reached the end of its suggestions for me. Is this a sign of Stumbling too much, or being too picky in what I like? More importantly is there better things I can do with my time then looking at recycled content? I think yes.

Power-Up: How Japanese Video Games Gave the Wo...

As you may have noticed, I am updating on average about 3 posts per day. Sometimes it is more if I have extra time. I have been studying more lately because I want to learn as much as I can in life and time in short. In particular I find increasingly that StumbleUpon has far too much recycled content, and not enough original things. It’s like going to the most popular rack in the library and seeing a limited selection of works. Fun, but rather boring after a while.

My goal is to bring original content to this website daily. This is difficult because I have seen that as the media outlets go out of business, less original content is made. I wonder if the economics of people not paying for news, will result in one ultimate news provider. I wonder if our apathy doesn’t kill us, but just misinform us which is worse?
