Perhaps Ted Landau always thoughtful articles might help.  This one is called Modifying iPhone carrier settings.  I am going to apply the strategies and report back if it helps.  AT&T recommends doing this carrier update for best reception.  You can also update the cell tower list by turning off your phone for 30 seconds and then turning it back on.  Its the same as hitting *226 if you have used Verizon.
