HP LaserJet M1522 Scanning in Lion?: Apple Support Communities. Thanks DocStan. Normally using old software causes problems, but I suppose it is worth trying when nothing else works.

HI.

I just got my printer scanning on the network.  It works from both my iMac and MacBook (wirelessly) and here’s how:

1.  GO to HP’s website:  www.hp.com and click on “Support and Drivers” at the top

2.  Click on “Drivers and Software” on the next page

3.  Search for the M1522   (I have a M1522nf) and click on the printer that you want

4.  THIS IS KEY:  When the list of OS comes up choose “Mac OS X”  WITH NO VERSION EXTENSION – that is don’t go to “Mac OS X 10.7″

5.  Download and install the most recent version of hte driver.  I ended up with:

HPLaserJetM152MFPseries1.4.0.dmg

6.  Run the program and install the software.

You do not need to plug the USB cable into the printer if it is a networked printer.

7.  You can then scan from “HP Director” – the program you’ve installed.

Image Capture doesn’t work, you need to use the HP software, but so far that works well for me.  I’ve done it on both my Macs.

A Hidden Security Threat: Beware the Office Multifunction Printer | PCWorld Business Center. I wonder if the small business that typically buy a MFP would know to fix this? I doubt it ranks in the average IT persons security concerns.

Stories from my past: I won’t pay you until everything is perfect

Note: the plate says - "The quick brown f...
Image via Wikipedia

I had a customer once named Ned. Ned was a farmer who was very particular. I had been working and fixing various things for about two hours and the last thing he asked me to do was to align his check printing. Now I had never done this task before. It required the check to automatically align horizontally in a tractor feed printer.

I read the printer manual on how to accomplish this and it required measuring the distance from the top, bottom and sides of the check and inputting that into the printer. After about six tries it was very close and Ned said that since I couldn’t seem to align it, that he wouldn’t pay me for my work. He was frustrated because he thought it was a simple matter. I had told him that I had never done it before but it should be possible and he agreed to give me some time to try it. He wasn’t really a patient person however. I said that I will align it perfectly and he can go do something else until I get it done, and if I can’t then I won’t charge him anything.

On the next try it perfectly aligned and we printed another half-dozen checks as a test. It was really quite amazing to see it automatically line up. Ned was happy and more than a bit disappointed that I actually got it to work. I asked him if there was anything else and he said no. He paid me what we agreed on and I left. Ned called me again to work on his stuff but I had better customers than him at that point. I thanked him, but told him I was too busy to help. A person’s time is valuable who can solve the problem.

Ink printer ploter
Image via Wikipedia

Trekiemum figured it out.

My fix for the “on hold” authentication required message

1. opened the printer window and selected the printer name
2. selected the Hold icon
3. held down the control button and clicked my mouse
4. a dialogue box opened where I could change my password and check a box appear where I could choose to save the password.

How to setup a Windows shared printer to use AirPrint (Local & Networked)

Apple – Support – Discussions – How to setup a Windows shared printer …. CrackinChris has some great instructions.  Nice work!

hought I’d create a ‘how-to’ setup guide for iOS devices to AirPrint to any Windows printer via WiFi network.
PLEASE NOTE: The PC/Server/Laptop sharing the printer must be powered on for this to work obviously. You must also have admin rights to install the service on your PC.

1. First, ensure your printer is in a working state on your Windows PC.
2. Download ‘AirPrint Installer.zip’ from here http://elpamsoft.com/Downloads/AirPrint%20Installer.zip

3. Run the program (it run’s from the exe, no installation required) and click ‘Install AirPrint Service’ (Ensure Service Startup is AUTO)

  • This will install the AirPrint service on your Windows PC which works with the Bonjour service which enables your iOS device to ‘see’ your shared printer on your WiFi network

4. Share your printer. Open Your Printers folder, Right-Click your printer and click ‘share/sharing’.

  • Tick ‘Share this printer’
  • Click OK

5. Now attempt to printer a document/photo from iOS device.

6. If you get a box asking for a username and password, this HAS to be a local account on the PC/Server that your sharing the printer from NOT a Domain account.

  • I had no luck with using the Guest account, so to make things easier, I created a new account (Right Click My Computer > Manage > Local Users & Groups > Users) called ‘print’ (Username & Password both ‘print’)
  • You may need to make sure that the newly created account has ‘print’ privelages to your shared printer (Check this within the properties of your shared printer > Security tab). If not, add the user.

If your having problems with printer discovery from your iOS device, restart the Bonjour & AirPrint service
(Start > Run > (type) services.msc (Click OK) > Right Click ‘Bonjour Service’ > Click Restart. (Same for AirPrint Service)

Good Luck!
