WordPress Plugin Broken Link Checker works great-not so much Godaddy

Go Daddy
Image via Wikipedia

I installed a new plugin today called Broken Link Checker. It is going through all my past posts and pointing out any that have broken links. Then I will update a few a day until I get them all fixed.

However the downside is that this has slowed down the site to a crawl. If you have Godaddy and want to use this plugin run it during your least traffic period. Today isn’t so bad that this is occurring.

Looking for cheap WordPress › PHP / MySQL Web Hosting?

WordPress
Image by Adriano Gasparri via Flickr

WordPress › PHP / MySQL Web Hosting. This is a link from WordPress.org that links to forums with users who have different WordPress hosting companies. I would trust this over an other site that I found online. Real experiences with no commercial bias. There are just tons of fake cheap hosting reviews. Good luck!

Need to find out where your php.ini file is for WordPress hosted sites?

Thanks MarkRH. You can find his solution in the link below which I will copy here.  It worked great, and allowed me to prove to the technical support  at GoDaddy that I did not have access to that file.

To find out where the PHP.INI file is currently located, create a info.php file with the following code:

phpinfo(); ?>

Place the file in the same directory as your WordPress files.

Then, in your browser, go to http://<whatever>/info.php

It will then spew out the PHP configuration and variables. Look for Loaded Configuration File near the top to see where the PHP.INI file is located that it is using.

Depending on the webhost, you can put your own copy of PHP.INI into the same directory as your WordPress files and it will use that copy instead.

You can learn more in this article  Can You Resist Kiva’s Siren Call? (I Hope Not)

Volunteering is always very rewarding. I have learned so much by doing so. I commented by saying this:

That is a generous gesture and a great way to promote the cause. Kindness is its own reward. I shared one of my examples of that in this post.

Phishers use new tricks to snare victims (via The Informative Report)

This is really nice website. It has some interesting content. I am going to take a look at the other articles. It is best not to click on any attachments you do not recognize.

Phishers use new tricks to snare victims To get around phishing blacklists in browsers, scammers are luring people by using HTML attachments instead of URLs, a security firm has warned. EditAn example of a phishing attack encouraging the recipient to download an HTML attachment and provide information. Note the poor grammar, “required informations”, which should be a red flag   Chrome and Firefox are good at detecting phishing sites and warning web surfers via a browser notice when … Read More

This is great to know. Thanks for sharing. I started out at GoDaddy for my webpage because of the cheap domain name purchase. Then I was spending too much time working on PHP and modifying it. I helped a client move from MediaTemple to BlueHost and not only was it cheaper it was also faster. You can read the reviews from WordPress here.

Let me tell you a story of technological failure and very upsetting circumstances. In the far away land of last Tuesday, we sent out our second issue of the Paper Lantern Lit Newsletter, expecting nothing more than to bask in the glory of how awesome we are and maybe get some more entries into our contest through the quiz I spent a really long time making. But, as is true of all web heroes, my victory was to be short lived. The newsletter went ou … Read More
