I have a friend who went to Pearl Vision today and had a two-year old coating on her glasses bubbling up. It looked very bad, and the doctor told her after her eye test that they could remove the coating by immersing it in acid. The downside is that there was a 5% chance that it might ruin the lens itself. Even though my friend was worried that might happen to her, she elected to try it. So now all we had to do is wait the suggested hour.
It took more than an hour and a half. The lens coating wasn’t fully dissolving and was irregular. However when they came back they looked new and perfect. They looked brand new. It was really nice to see. They didn’t charge anything for the service.
So if your coatings look bad, ask if they can clean them off and you might be looking at the world through whole new lens.
I went to the eye doctor today and things went well. What I wanted to share is that they have new technology in screening for eye problems that I had never had before. It was called Optocon or something like that. One is used to test the blind spot in vision and the other to photograph the back of the cornea.
I don’t know if you ever have had this problem at the eye doctor but I am very sensitive to things in my eye. For example one machine that blows a puff of air I always frustrate the office assistants. My eyes are very quick and they never get a picture. The same thing happened with this new Optocon. You have to press your eye against a small hole and line your pupil up with a green dot, and see a ring of red around the green dot. That helps to center the eyeball. So I wasn’t able to do this despite multiple times and multiple assistants. Probably worked on this for 20 minutes without success. So we gave up on it, and even though the procedure cost $20 more decided to put the drugs in my eyes like had always happened before.
The doctor examined me and I was fine. Slight change in vision but that is typical for me. She was very nice and suggested that we give the other machine another go. I was like “Well I don’t want to waste your time but I’m willing to try.” So I took a few breaths to relax and scooted next to the machine. She saw that my eyelashes had caused the problem before and suggested that she help hold my eyelid with her finger. I was willing to try. Success! She was able to get the image on the first try!
She showed me the photo on the computer and explained where she was looking to see if there were any problems. She also asked if I wanted the photo for a background to my desktop. I thought to myself “I am not that narcissistic” but said “I am not that interested.” I can’t imagine why anyone would want to look at blood vessels.
The doctor was full of information about things I suspected but didn’t know for sure. She explained that light eyed people like myself who has blue eyes usually react stronger to the eye dilation medicine. She said that the lighter pigment lets more light through which makes sense. I remember in the past after taking the eye drops that it was painful to go outside. It was like looking at the sun. Even though the new machine cost $20 more than drug droplets I will do this in the future. I am glad that LensCrafters has this technology.
