Migrated Word now wants to connect to scanner and camera – slows launch

I found a file named “Camera & Scanner Plug-in” in the Office/Add-ins folder (in Applications). I trashed that file and now Word starts up as usual.

“An older version of the Microsoft Database Daemon is running” or “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library” after you install Office 2004 for Mac SP2

You receive an error message.  So the answer is to:

  1. Delete the Microsoft Database Daemon from the startup items in your Accounts > Login items tab in System Preferences.
  2. Restart the computer
  3. Download and install all Office 2004 updates: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx . Under the “Browse for downloads” section, click Office 2004. Download all the available updates or use Microsoft AutoUpdate.
