Anyone wanted to be like Alex Keaton?

Michael J. FoxI am watching Netflix and the Family Ties episode “Speed Test”. In this episode Alex was trying to be perfect and used drugs to get good grades and score well on his tests. Alex did many stupid things on the show, but I seemed to ignore them as a kid.

Now watching the show Alex seems more like a jerk than a role model. He was intelligent, could be funny, and seemed to do well with women. I know he was written to be the foil of the good characters in his family, but he seemed to take a perverse pleasure in being the bad guy.

Now I’d rather be more like myself. Role models seem kind of silly.

Are watching old films hard to view?

I sometimes watch Netflix at my friends house and I have repeatedly tried to watch older films. I tried to watch one today from 1940 called Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe. After five minutes I had to give up. It was just too stupid to watch.

I think that watching a movie should have a surprise in its plot. I don’t mind bad special effects, poor acting, but it absolutely has to have an interesting plot. People often complain that movies are bad, but it seems to me that movies have always been bad. No, I’m not talking about all movies, but it seems unavoidable that in entertainment at least, quality is not going to be in the majority but the minority.

So I’ve come to the conclusion that no longer will services be popular because of the number of items. The Wal-Mart approach. It will be popular because it curates things-The Apple approach. Perhaps the best thing to make customers happy is to have more intelligent recommendations, and less filler.

Has anyone watched a SF show called Lexx?

British author H. G. Wells' 1895 novel The Tim...

I found it on Netflix and because I like Science Fiction I watched it. The first season was pretty good, but then it quickly got worse. This is not a rant about the show, but more of a question of why?

Why do shows like this get made? With all the great fiction that has been written, why is so little produced as movies? I understand that people don’t want to mess with classics, but some just is crying out to be made. How can people not appreciate some of the fine fiction classic that are available? Does this mean that the people who make movies don’t believe that best-selling books will be popular movies?

Why are the worst movies made from classics? Is our collective IQ going to grow with more Rambo movies?

Plug-In Failure in Netflix.: Apple Support Communities

Microsoft Silverlight

Medinaphotography solved the issue. I am surprised how often I have issues with Netflix on the mac. On the PC with and old Windows XP laptop it seems to be much smoother.

I had the same problem and I did the same update. All you need to do is update the plug-in Silverlight.

That should do it

Online Video Game Rental Review 2011 – TopTenREVIEWS

Online Video Game Rental Review 2011 – TopTenREVIEWS. Do you like to rent ps3 games but hate the prices charged by RedBox and others? I have a friend who loves to play PS3 games, so I often visit her and play two player games with her. She is trying a GameFly trial period and seems very excited. Has anyone used GameFly and what has your experience been?
A few years ago I used to go to BlockBuster and rent ps2 games. The selection was poor and when I asked about it, the employee said that the more that people rent the more they will offer. This seemed a circular argument to me. How can you rent stuff when they choose poor titles? I think what business often fail to do is to appreciate the passion of their audience. When they compete on just price, they miss the essential part of what the consumers of that segment want. I wouldn’t have minded paying a higher price for quality games that cost a little more new.

Moog Documentary on Netflix

I am not pushing Netflix, but enjoy spending time with my friend to watch it. I am watching a documentary on Moog that is fascinating.

One record I found at a thrift store said it was “Machine Music”. It was a record of music that was created by computers with Moog instruments. For the most part it was very asynchronous but sometimes there would be moments with the music came together and it was beautiful.

I would have loved to talk to the person who programmed those computers. I wonder how much effort it took to make that album? If you appreciated progressive music in the past like Emerson, Yes, Peter Gabriel, you have Moog to thank for much of that.
