Force Quit Applications warning on iMac…: Apple Support Communities. Interesting that it lists 3 programs that must be memory leakers. I seem to do better avoiding Firefox and Safari. Can’t really avoid the Finder but that is nice to know that restarting it may fix issues. The solution is below:

I just upgraded the recent version of Safari 5.1.2 for Snow Leopard and it’s supposed to fix the memory leak that’s eating up my RAM.  Hopefully that will fix the problem.

My Fonts displaying poorly in Safari: Apple Support Communities. Turns out it is a problem with Font Agent Pro. You can temporarily disable it with these instructions. thanks CleefMon.

Been struggling with this since upgrading to Lion.  Tried validating fonts, Onxy to clear caches, deleting Safari prefs, reboots.  Nothing worked, until I saw this solution:

I am indeed using the latest (Lion compatible) version of FontAgentPro.  Disabling all FAP fonts, then launching Safari has cured the problem for me.  Now just waiting for a FAP update.

Fix for netflix error code n8156-6013. I ran into this problem on a Windows XP machine after i upgraded the Firefox from 4 to 5. It worked perfectly in Chrome which I am using to watch it now. There are several solutions listed in this link.

Living Without Adobe Flash If you have Firefox it gives a link for an extension that will default to HTML5. With all the updates to Flash, and the poor performance on mobile devices it seems inevitable to switch. I shared in the comments the extension for Chrome which I use.

Do you know the extension for Chrome? Its called Video5.

Opera 11 vs. Chrome 10 on the Mac

I had written a few days ago that I was impressed with Opera 11. It does have some good points. However after installing one extension Shareaholic, it has become less stable and slow than Chrome with 4 extensions including Shareaholic. Very disappointing. It has some nice features like greater security, and better ability to block pop-ups, but the lack of speed and stability are enough to kill it for me.

Firefox seems so far behind the times it is not funny. For example in the newest Firefox you can’t set the option for two webpages to open automatically when you start. You only get the option for one page. Chrome allows you to set at least two start-up webpages. That is what I have set and it seems you can add more. In addition Firefox crashed when showing flash. Come on!

So it seems that Chrome for the Mac has the most stable, fastest and best set of features.

Safari vs. Firefox 4 vs. Opera vs. Chrome

I have written about a security problem with Safari before and my problems with Firefox. Since I normally use Chrome I have been experiencing more weird behavior lately. Times where it will freeze on non flash pages and crashing. So I thought it was time that I tested Opera again. I haven’t used it for several years. It just seemed that its rendering problems in the past were too big to deal with.

So I downloaded it and using it now. I am very impressed. I immediately noticed how good the text looked. The speed is on the same level with Chrome, and it enforces policy even more strictly than Chrome does. For example I tried to log into StumbleUpon with Opera and Opera told me that its TLS was inconsistent and that it couldn’t establish a good secure connection. I had installed an extension called Redirect to HTTPS and it gave me this error, when a similar HTTPS force extension on Chrome did not warn me. Very good!

I am going to continue to use Opera for at least a week. If it is better I will probably make another post and let everyone know the equivalent extensions for safe, and ad-free targeting for the average joe. Have a great Friday everyone!
