It took a lot longer to sync this time then the initial sync during the install of iOS5. So I’m guessing the files weren’t really on the phone or were in the process of being transferred since i have 969 songs..

To me, it is that their life means more than just surviving. They somehow make the world a better place.

So using this scale, I have to place Bill Gates as greater than Steve Jobs. Being focused on the needs of the poor and disenfranchised is a noble goal, and one that I find very rewarding. The best times in my life have been when I have been able to give or help others.

This is not to say that what Mr. Jobs did wasn’t worthwhile. iPads are used in many life saving applications, and I have featured many of those stories on this website. However, given the focus of Mr. Gates vs the focus of Mr. Jobs as reported publicly, it seems clear who is doing the most for the poor.

I could be wrong, and Mr. Jobs is doing great things for the poor. I don’t deny that may be happening, but I have not read anything about that. It may be that the future of Apple might be to help medical devices become even cheaper and more functional. I hope that is the case. I appreciate the things that Apple has done to move technology forward, even if people were inconvenienced or it was a rude awakening. While I do not apologize for them, I understand why they acted as they did.

Many things improve the quality of our live. Open source software is something I use everyday. I suppose Mr. Stallman I should thank for that. It is really impossible to give credit to all the creative and hardworking individuals who make the world better. I think the most we can do is have gratitude for living in a time, in which we can witness the growth of peaceful and non-destructive methods of solving problems.

What makes a person great? Making others lives great.

This was my first iPod as well. Unfortunately it broke so I never bought another iPod. Did you buy the first generation or get a later one?

Isn’t it surprising they haven’t made a larger capacity one by now?

Why my next Mac wont be a notebook. It is frustrating to have this many failures. I have said before that I had an iPod failure and I never bought another one. I also had bought a used Power Mac 6400 but sold that to a friend. That was an amazing computer at the time. The subwoofer made tremendously rich sounds. Playing games was very fun.

I sold a Powerbook Lombard after about a year of having it and that was perfect as well. It was a pleasure to use. Now I have a 2007 MacBook that has been working very well. I bought it used about 2 years ago and I haven’t really had to spend any money on it. So when I divide the cost of the machine vs the time I have had it, it comes out to $20 per month. Compared to the cost vs how long I enjoyed the machine, this has been my cheapest Mac. For me, the use of a computer is how long I can use it and how much money I have to spend to keep it working.

For example my first PC was a custom job and I often had to spend more money to upgrade it. I originally had Windows 95, but then needed more hardware for Windows 98. Then I had to use NT when I was helping businesses, so really those were almost like buying new machines since the hardware compatibility wasn’t very good back then. Plus I was learning, and it helped me to understand hardware to actually use it. I don’t regret the educational cost, but in the same period my Mac 6400 didn’t need any upgrades. It accepted the OS update from 8 to 8.5 to 9 without any problems. It was a pleasure to upgrade.

It would be unfair to say that hardware was the only cost for the continued functioning of new programs for my Windows computer. I had to pay each year for anti-virus, application updates like the upgrade from Word 95 to Word 97 (Office 97). It was also a big investment of time for both me and my customers to back up data and get used to how new programs worked. There was a tremendous investment in education for most people who had used the Dos based Windows 95 programs to GUI based programs in Windows 98.

So for me, the Mac seems like a more logical and cheaper choice.

How to improve battery life in iOS 4.3, Ping bug Your Daily Apple News. This is a well constructed site. Simple solution to this problem. It seems with the last few updates with iOS that decreased battery life was a problem. Traditionally resetting up the email account seemed to solve these issues.

This is an Apple Discussion suggestion from tasa:

I am now showing some slight improvement since doing the following:

1) Shut down all apps running in tne background, completely emptying the task bar. I remembered when multitasking was an issue on the iphone(don’t remember which upgrade that was).
2) Made sure that absolutely everything that could be a drain, location services, alerts and notifications, etc., were off. When I went back to check after my first posting I found some things had been turned back on when I installed 4.3, and “ask to join networks” was on, which I always leave turned off as I have long been aware that this was a drain.
3) Did a complete restart twice.
4) Recharged overnight.

Today I have been working unplugged for 3 hours with only wi-fi turned on, almost constantly surfing and also did some app updating. Power is now at 75%, which is just about right, right?

I am also wondering how much DST might have played into all this?? Maybe not the best time for major system upgrades?

I will keep testing and report anything else I learn.

Some other suggestions:

This Apple Discussions post suggests that updating your router/WAP might fix security settings like WPA2 that might be in use.

Turning off push notification seems to help as well.

Format device and re-add applications. In the past the iOS was sensitive to certain applications that slowed performance and caused glitches.

Create a new user account on your computer and sync to new account. Test to see if any difference.

Reinstall iTunes and resync.
