Error code 0×80020042 when trying to …

The solution for rawsaxy:

Well, after making the mistake of adding permissions to internal files on the main hard drive and system folder, I ended up with the Gray Screen and Restart Loop problem. I was able to backup the important files before doing an Erase & Install. Everything is working better than before now. I left the Mac OS at 10.5.2, and guess what? I was able to burn a DVD in iDVD ’08 now! Thank you Lord!

Another two solutions are from this thread.

1.  Try another kind of media

2.  Use a Computer CD/DVD cleaning pad.

Both of this solutions fixed the problem for two posters.

Getting error 34506 in iDVD 6?

Could be many issues.  This thread lists many of them.  SDlillini has these suggestions.  Thanks!

Follow the chapter rules:

*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the start or end of the timeline.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within a transition.
*Make sure no chapter markers are within two seconds of the end of a transition.
*Make sure you do not have the “Share selected Clips” option checked when preparing to share to iDVD

Make sure you have lots of free space on your startup drive, 20GB recommended

Close iDVD, then:
Delete your iDVD plist (preference) file (Found in User / Library / Preferences) “com.apple.iDVD.plist”

Try save as disk image and burn that.
