Sending from Mail: Apple Support Communities

Image via Wikipedia

Thanks Ernie Stamper.

Quit Mail, and in the Finder open Home/Library/Mail/Mailboxes and locate the Outbox.mbox folder. Is there one? If you open it, does the Messages folder within it have any content?

Drag the Outbox.mbox folder from its location to the Desktop. Relaunch Mail, and attempt to send. Then in the Finder again, check to see if Mail has created a new Outbox.mbox folder, and to learn if this new message was in fact sent?

Users munsonid and jtownsend251 both helpfully answer. I have noted the cache deleting trick on another post as well to fix shutdown issues.

To repair permissions

a. open up Disk Utility

b. click on your hard drive (Macinhosh HD)

c. On the right hand side click on Repair Permissions.

To delete caches:

from the Finder’s Go menu, choose Go To Folder.

Go to this folder: /Library

Delete the Caches folder.

.DS_Store — Rixstep Industry Watch. Everything you always wanted to know about .DS_Store files but were afraid to ask. This becomes an issue when you share a fileshare with non Mac users. They view these files that are hidden by default on the Mac.

Duplicate ‘com.apple.xxx’ preferences: Apple Support Communities

Finder (software)

Duplicate ‘com.apple.xxx’ preferences: Apple Support Communities. I have never seen this issue, but interesting that it occurs. Barry has the solution below.

This issue has been covered by MacFixit.

An AppleScripter provided the following script which I have set up to run automatically upon shutdown or restart. You would need to change widget.weather to quicktime or whatever other preference file is appropriate.

set the_container to path to preferences folder from user domain

tell application “Finder” to tell folder the_container

delete (every file whose name contains “widget.weather” and name extension is not “plist”)

end tell

Can’t save or select a view on a Mac folder?

Finder: A Messy Folder: Apple Support Communities.  Then you will want to follow baltwo’s advice. Nicely done! I rarely have had to delete DS store files, but I can see how it is useful here.

Those settings are stored in the hidden .DS_Store file that’s created the first time you open a folder. If the problem returns, delete it, and reset the view options. Details on showing hidden files are revealed by a google search for unhide files mac.
