Power-Up: How Japanese Video Games Gave the Wo...

As you may have noticed, I am updating on average about 3 posts per day. Sometimes it is more if I have extra time. I have been studying more lately because I want to learn as much as I can in life and time in short. In particular I find increasingly that StumbleUpon has far too much recycled content, and not enough original things. It’s like going to the most popular rack in the library and seeing a limited selection of works. Fun, but rather boring after a while.

My goal is to bring original content to this website daily. This is difficult because I have seen that as the media outlets go out of business, less original content is made. I wonder if the economics of people not paying for news, will result in one ultimate news provider. I wonder if our apathy doesn’t kill us, but just misinform us which is worse?

How I decide what appears on this blog

I have shared before my list of RSS feeds, and that I also look at other sources. In the last few months I have been learning from StumbleUpon. It has a surprising mix of stories, and always something interesting can be found. Recently however, it has been getting harder to find stories that I felt were appropriate here and I think I know why.

I always try to give some context to the information that I share. As I read things on the web I am astounded at the ignorance, and lack of history that the writers show. I am not an expert, but I do wonder why so much content on the net is repeated. Wikipedia knowledge is the new baseline for sharing content for me, and articles that don’t meet that are rejected. Sometimes I will share something that is ignorant because it reflects how I suspect a majority of people may feel. I don’t have any particular agenda in how I share information, just sharing what I feel can improve the thoughts and experiences of others.

I have also been trying things that I haven’t done before like Roundups or collections of articles on one subject. I have done them off and on in the past. To me, they don’t really excite me because it seems obvious that someone motivated to learn would already know this stuff. However they seem to be popular at other well-known websites, so I am willing to give them a chance and see what people think.

Another thing that I sometimes wonder about are articles that don’t have any readers. Sometimes those are short, easy comments, while other times they are long involved pieces. I am going to see if there is a WordPress plugin that could find or list articles that have not been read. Then I will analyze why they have not been read. Perhaps I really am one of a kind, or I am not concerned enough about SEO. Probably the latter. I tried All in One SEO but was unimpressed.
